On the way to Daisy's we drove through the hardest-hit areas of the ice storm. It's difficult to describe driving for mile after mile and seeing such destruction as far as the eye can see.
One of the reasons we decided to travel east this year was to visit with Daisy, a good friend from Boulder who retired & moved back to the house where she grew up. We had a very busy time with Daisy, despite the fact that it rained most of the time we were here. First, we visited the National Quilt Museum in Paducah.
Even if you've been here before (as we have twice) they regularly switch out the quilts on display, and are constantly getting new ones, so the presentation is always different, plus they have continual special exhibits. We spent one morning at the John James Audubon State Park near Henderson, where Audubon lived for several years.
The State Park was constructed by both the CCC & WPA, and houses a large collection of Audubon's watercolors, oils, engravings, and memorabilia. Afterwards we drove to Henderson where we had a tasty lunch and then walked (in the rain!) the downtown tour of Audubon Sculptures: nine works based on paintings by Audubon.
We also re-visited Cadiz to go to the Janice Mason Art Museum, which was an amazing museum for such a small town. In the evenings we would play Scrabble or just sit around & talk. It was great fun seeing Daisy again, we just wish she wasn't quite so far away.
